Closer

For this movie, there was the usual crap from the critics that didn't approach it with the right mindset. They never "get" children's movies because they don't remember what it's like to just be one! This movie was just plain FUN!

I don't even know where to begin - I'm still bouncing around on the sugar rush. I LOVE this movie!!!!!
I am probably going to go see it again and if it's still in IMAX, I might try that, too. And this is the first new movie that my husband would definitely buy on Blu-Ray.

It looks like Lisa Frank threw up on Need for Speed (I can't get enough of the colors of this movie). I'm not a "pastels" sort of person so I was definitely digging the look of this world and the tracks were so cool! I couldn't help thinking that if Nascar looked more like this, I would have to watch it. I wish we'd had these hotwheels car sets when I was a kid.

I, personally, liked the plot, too. Doesn't matter how cliché it might seem, they did a good interpretation of it and kept to the spirit of the old cartoon. I really dug the family element and Christina Ricci was a doll as Trixie (haven't enjoyed her as much since she was Wednesday Adams). The movie did a great job of crisscrossing between past and present with visual transitions that rocked and the story was told very straight forward (much like in a cartoon - duh!). Rain and Matthew Fox were cool and Emile Hirsch was just a cutie!

Bottom line: see this in theaters or on an awesome home theater; remember it's a kids (young and old) movie - enjoy the trip and you'll have as much fun as they did making it.
5 stars - (10 for the colors)
And don't worry: you won't have a seizure - but you will get quite a sugar rush (more, please!)

People look at me like I'm crazy when I tell them I want to see this. I didn't even like the cartoon that much but the movie looks like fun. That and I'll give anything done by the Wachowski's a shot.

I'm sure the cartoon would seem stiff, outdated and kind of hokey now - unlike this movie! :-) In other words, I wasn't a fan of the cartoon either and I probably only saw a couple of episodes of Pole Position (the nearest equivalent).

Go see it and you won't be disappointed.

I've got a friend whose kid is all about "Cars" (he's seen it so many times he says every line with the movie) and I'm wondering what he'd think of Speed (he's going on 5). Hmmm.

Yeah, it's Sat evening (where's Lake Helen? - I sooo paid attention in geography class lol).
If you can't make it Sat, we can always have you over to swim anytime :-)

Yeah, I'm wondering what this movie would do to his cars obsession ;-D They have the tracks in Hot Wheels sets.
