Fingers rest lightly on the gauzy curtains separating one reality from another; the figure, unable to breathe, stands transfixed by the vision. A longing denied; souls on fire but separated by desolate ages, leaving only an aching void.
She shimmers in the mirage of his imagination: aubergine tresses spilling over vanilla essence. His finger mirrors hers as she traces his name on the ethereal scrim that divides them, unaware that he is so near. He yearns to catch her tears as he probes her memories:
Water. A sparkling river. Falling... emptiness beneath hands reaching for...

but her life slips through his fingers.
